WANDERERS are not in the hunt to sign Stoke City winger James McClean, The Bolton News understands.

Reports at the weekend linked Ian Evatt’s side with a move for the 32-year-old, who has fallen out of contention at the Bet365 Stadium.

Left-sided midfielder McClean is currently training with the Under-23s and it was claimed that both Bolton and his former club Wigan were lining up a move before the end of the transfer window.

But sources at Wanderers say they have not looked at the Irishman as a potential signing, with Dapo Afolayan, Amadou Bakayoko and Elias Kachunga already on board, and Xavier Amaechi also on the road to recovery from a broken metatarsal.

McClean’s last three games have been for his country – with the last appearance in a Stoke City shirt coming against Millwall in the Championship in April.

Even though McLean is not on the radar, transfer news could well pick up at Bolton this week.

Wanderers are currently focussing their attention on moving players out of the University of Bolton Stadium, with Dennis Politic weighing up loan options in England and Scotland until January.

Some of the club’s other young players have also got options to move out on loan, although like Politic, their deals have not yet been completed.

Ali Crawford and Brandon Comley are also available for transfer, although Evatt said at the end of last week that there had been “no bites” from other clubs.

Wanderers will be able to register 22 players aged 21 or over, excluding goalkeepers, for league games this season.

Counting Liam Edwards, who is currently working his way back to fitness after a long-term injury, Bolton have a full quota of senior players, should they choose to register each one for league competition.
