Amir Khan has teased on social media that his long-awaited fight against Kell Brook is edging closer.

The Bolton boxer shared photos from his recent meetings with Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn and Sky Sports’ Adam Smith on Twitter.

Khan also posted a video of him training with the caption: “Negotiations have started for a big showdown (at the) end of the year.”

The Brook bout is years in the making, and fans are hopeful the pair will finally step in the ring together this year.

While both men are past their primes, the fight is still arguably one of the biggest Britain has to offer.

What has been said

Earlier this month, Khan told Fight Hype: “I see the Brook fight all day long. At the end of the day Brook needs to step it up and make it happen.

“I’m ready now so I don’t know why he’s all quiet. Let’s hope he doesn’t outbid himself, he’s gonna say that he wants more money.

“Look, I’m ready. I’ve never been a fighter to turn down any fight. I’ve fought guys like Canelo, Crawford, I’ve fought the biggest names in the sport of boxing, do you think I’m scared of Kell Brook?

“Let’s make that fight happen.”

Several days later, Brook told iFL TV: “I’ve been quiet because there’s more of a chance of it happening then.

“Listen, that’s the fight that’s happening. Get to it, Khan. Put it on a little contract and we’re there. There’s a lot of talks.

"This year it’s happening; it’s got to happen, hasn't it?

“I just think bar Fury-AJ, I still think it’s the biggest fight in British boxing. I think everyone will still get very, very excited about that fight."

Recent fights

Khan hasn’t fought in over two years – his last bout was against Billy Dib in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia back in July 2019.

The Bolton boxer won via a fourth-round stoppage against the overmatched Australian at the King Abdullah Sports City to claim the WBC international welterweight title.

Back in April 2020, Khan admitted he was considering retiring from the sport due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Brook’s last fight was a fourth-round defeat to Terence Crawford in Las Vegas in November 2020.

Crawford was also the most recent man to beat Khan following their bout at Madison Square Garden in April 2020.
