IAN Evatt has vowed to ensure Wanderers continue to be value for money this season.

League One’s top scorers transfer to Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night, taking on local rivals Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Bolton will be backed on the night by a sell-out away following of 4,700, with the additional allocation supplied on Friday snapped up in just eight minutes.

Wanderers are working hard to win back lapsed season ticket holders and supporters who had fallen away over the last decade.

And Evatt accepts he has a responsibility to ensure his side continue to play football that people want to watch.

“I think it is an entertainment industry and in the world we live in right now, it’s hard to earn money so when people are working hard to come and watch their football club play, I’d like them to be entertained,” he said.

Wanderers welcomed more than 15,000 in for the Oxford game and speaking after the final whistle, Evatt felt the home fans had played their part in getting the result.

“You could just feel that connection in the last 10 minutes,” he said.

“The fans have galvanised the players, the players are galvanising the fans, and that’s how it should be.

“This club is the heartbeat of this community and we want it tied closely together.

“That hasn’t always been the case in recent times but we are really pleased with where we are at, but we are not going to give up now. We are going to keep trying and striving to improve.”

There will have been few refund requests on Saturday as Evatt’s side despatched last season’s play-off semi-finalists Oxford United at the UniBol.

Wanderers currently have eight points from their first four games, their best return in the last three seasons, and are one of only four unbeaten teams in the division – the others being Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth.

Evatt believes there is more to come from his team as they shake off the after-effects of a disrupted pre-season and make their way towards full fitness.

“It’s just in a good place at the minute and we are not going to rest on our laurels,” he said. “We are going to work extremely hard to keep improving.

“Are there improvements to come? Of course there are, there are loads of things that we can work on and improve on, but the club is heading in the right direction and that is so pleasing.”

Eoin Doyle scored his second goal of the season to seal three points against Oxford, and Evatt felt the striker deserved to grab the headlines on what was his 50th appearance for the club.

“We’re delighted that he’s scored because his effort and determination setting off the trigger and the press is there for all to see,” he said.

“Tight games are always decided on significant defining moments and the corner was one. We managed to work a routine and Doyler finished it with a fantastic finish.”
