WANDERERS will move for attacking reinforcements in the transfer market if one of Ian Evatt’s shortlisted players becomes available in the coming week.

The Bolton boss is keeping a keen eye on several younger strikers who were earmarked as potential additions in the summer.

Both Evatt and technical performance director Chris Markham began a list of potential signings in February with one eye on League One football and added to it after promotion.

Evatt says he is pleased with the squad he assembled early in the window but admits he could be tempted into another deal or two if a player on whom he has done his homework becomes available.

“We’re always looking, we’re always on the hunt,” he said. “Obviously we did a lot of work during the off season and the end of last season and have a list of players that we feel would suit the way we play, and if some of those become available then we’ll look at it.

“Fundamentally we’re really happy with what we’ve got – but if it’s the right thing to do for the football club, then yes, we would bring someone else in.”

Crucially, Wanderers would be able to add Under-21s to their squad without upsetting the EFL’s squad quota rules.

Evatt does anticipate some of his players heading in the opposite direction, however, which may offer scope to bring in a senior player.

“Yeah, I think there’s every chance of players leaving,” he said. “Nothing is really happening at the moment, but as you know the last week and especially the final few days, it becomes very busy.

“We think that there will be some outgoings, definitely yes.”

Evatt has also called on Wanderers’ supporters to be passionate – but stay safe at the DW Stadium tomorrow night.

Around 4,700 away fans will be heading to Wigan on Tuesday night with memories of their last unhappy visit in 2019 – marred by fighting and clashes with police – still fresh.

Evatt hopes the cup tie will pass off without any unsavoury incidents.

“I’m all for rivalry and local derbies, but providing people stay within the rules and behave themselves responsibly,” he said.

“In the age of keyboard warriors, people can say what they want on social media to each other, but when fans are there, it can be a heated and emotional atmosphere.

“I think it’s important that we have some perspective and make sure that we back our team in a responsible way.

“Having said that, our fans are absolutely amazing. I have no doubts that they will and support us correctly and hopefully we’ll give them something to sing and shout about.”
