WANDERERS (4-2-3-1).

MATT GILKS…6.5.

Competent return for Gilks, whose grasp on a clean sheet was only really tested by a couple of pots shots. Came up with a save in the shootout too.

HARRY BROCKBANK…5.5.

Defensively sounds aside from a wobbly spell in the second half but his link-up down the right didn’t really give Wigan enough to think about.

ALEX BAPTISTE…6.5.

Aside from a couple of misplaced passes it was a decent return to the side for Baptiste, who very nearly grabbed a winner at the death.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…7.

Looked hungry on his return to Wigan and defended well, particularly with a fine block to deny Max Power in the first half.

LIAM GORDON…5.5.

Worried for him early on as he hadn’t quite got to the pace of the game and made a couple of errors on the ball but did recover and had a decent second half.

KIERAN LEE…7.5.

Best we have seen from Lee in a while. Got involved, linked up well when Bolton brought the ball out of defence. Didn’t waste possession.

GEORGE THOMASON…6.

There was little control in the middle of the park for either side, and Thomason had trouble getting involved at times. Stuck to his task, though.

NATHAN DELFOUNESO…5.5.

Missed the penalty – which happens. But looked a couple of beats off his game, which may be a lack of match sharpness. Will come good.

JOSH SHEEHAN…6.

Some classy touches – but did he get on the ball where it mattered? Wanderers seemed to struggle playing through midfield. Set pieces were a little inconsistent too.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.5.

Excellent first half, when he seemed to be the key to winning the contest. Not quite as influential in the second half.

ELIAS KACHUNGA…6.

Showed a feistiness that the Bolton fans will love – but clearly still feeling his way towards full fitness and was replaced by Doyle after an hour.

Referee: Thomas Bramall – 7/10: Went a bit card happy for a few minutes before the interval but it did have the desired effect, taking some of the sting out of the derby.
