WESTHOUGHTON won the Hamer Cup with a three-wicket triumph against Horwich.
In a game played at Farnworth, opening batsman Dean Bell struck 39 for Horwich, but they still found themselves in trouble at 65-6.
However Jack Berry led the recovery with an unbeaten half century and the innings finished at 146-9. Adam Patel took 3-16 for Westhoughton and there were two wickets for Rob Brown and Matt Fanning.
The Westhoughton response began brightly enough with an opening partnership of 25, but this became 33-3 after Brett Pelser introduced himself and Berry into the attack.
At 84-5 Westhoughton knew the game was in the balance but man of the match Mark Atherton played a captain's innings to guide his side over the line with 64 not out, including four sixes.
Pelser’s 3-20 and Berry’s 2-27 had put Horwich in control at one stage, but some difficult chances were missed in the field and opportunities to kill the game came and went.
