WANDERERS are back in League One action on Monday night when they welcome Burton Albion to the UniBol.

Ian Evatt’s men will be looking to build on the 3-2 win against Port Vale in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Marc Iles caught up with Colston Crawford from the Burton Mail to get the lowdown on the Brewers.

It was a busy deadline day for Burton. What did you make of those deals?

There have been 16 arrivals this summer - I think only Ipswich and Morecambe have topped that. You would think there would be a gelling issue there, but what Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has done on deadline day is largely due to his long injury list.

There are 10 first-team regulars out through injury. I think he’s had to say, ‘look, I’ve got to get some numbers in because of the bodies that are out’. Daniel Jebbison looks like a good addition.

It’s how the loan system should work – he comes to us, gets some good experience and goes back better. His parents think it’s a good idea that he learns from Hasselbaink, and that’s the sort of pull he has got.

And what’s Hasselbaink like as a manager?

I wasn’t covering Burton when he was here the first time, but he seems to be much more relaxed this time – the first time was his first managerial job in England. He seems relaxed, he’s very positive and gets on with the chairman.

It just seems like the right fit - he seems very comfortable with it. Somebody who had the career he did might think it is beneath them to be managing in League One, but he’s nothing like that. He loves the project and he loves football.

And what about Lucas Akins? He always seems to score against Wanderers…

Akins is an absolute one-off. I hope he wouldn’t mind me saying that he had not done a great deal in his career before he came to us. Now, he is in his eighth season here and hardly ever misses a game. He is never injured – he must be the fittest man I have ever come across in football.

Burton have started the season strongly. What have you made of their performances?

It is strange – they have taken one point out of six against Cheltenham and Cambridge, and six out of six against Ipswich and Sunderland. Of course, we shouldn’t put Cheltenham and Cambridge down – they have got their methods and are hard work to deal with. In the end, it is 10 points from five games with a long injury list.

And who is missing for the Brewers?

They wanted an out-and-out striker and signed Louis Moult from Preston. He went over on his ankle in a pre-season friendly against Leicester and is out for five months.

Kane Hemmings - the main striker last season - then pulls his hamstring and hasn’t played this season. They have not played with a natural striker on the pitch yet - Omari Patrick has been playing there.

Finally, what is your score prediction?

I’m going for a 1-1 draw.
