WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

JOEL DIXON…7.5.

Did his homework to deny Bowman from the spot and also did his bit to repel any number of crosses which were aimed into the Bolton box.

GETHIN JONES…6.5.

Had an encouraging first half and got forward well before being withdrawn with an injury at half time. Hopefully nothing too sinister.

RICARDO SANTOS…9.

Seemed to feed off the crowd’s energy and become even stronger in the final stages of the game when Bolton needed him the most.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…8.5.

On any other day would have been man of the match by a mile. Threw his body at everything and was rarely bettered by a physical Shrews attack.

DECLAN JOHN…7.

Kept Bennett and Co relatively quiet, looked dangerous when Bolton were at their attacking best in the last 15 minutes of the first half.

MJ WILLIAMS…7.

Dropped much deeper in the second half – maybe a tactical move, maybe as a result of fatigue – but kept neat and tidy, as ever.

KIERAN LEE…8.

Finished the day with two assists and seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, running himself to a standstill. Afforded a standing ovation as he walked off.

ELIAS KACHUNGA…6.5.

Keen to open that scoring account and buzzed around the front line looking to get involved. Sadly, Bolton ran out of service.

ANTONI SARCEVIC…7.5.

Produced an absolute rocket against his former club and was another one running on fumes towards the end of the game. One blip on the penalty – but not much else.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…7.

Produced another one of his textbook ‘Thierry Henry’ goals, cutting in from the left and burying into the bottom corner. Slowed down second half.

EOIN DOYLE…6.5.

Didn’t get much of a sniff at goal – that must be doing his head in – but regular Doyle-watchers should know by now he does a lot more.

Subs: Isgrove 6.5 46 (for Jones) – Worked hard on the right.

Bakayoko 71 (for Doyle) – Got the biggest cheer of the night on his return.

Sheehan 78 (for Lee) – Some classy touches.

Not used: Delfouneso, Thomason, Gordon, Baptiste.

Shrewsbury Town (3-4-1-2): Marosi; Pennington, Ebanks-Landell, Pierre; Bennett, Davis, Leahy, Nurse; Whalley; Bowman, Udoh.

Subs: Bloxham 74 (for Bowman), Cosgrove 75 (for Udoh), Ogbeta (for Whalley).

Not used: Burgoyne, Pyke, Caton, Leshabela.

Referee: Marc Edwards 7/10. Great advantage played for Afolayan’s goal and – in hindsight – looks like he made the right call with not calling offside in the build-up to Shrewsbury’s goal. But why book Santos when it was clear what happened? Daft.

Attendance: 14,124.
