WANDERERS (4-2-3-1).

JOEL DIXON…5.

Beaten by conditions as much as the shot for the second goal but the bigger disappointment was the persistence in playing it short from the back, when a more direct approach was needed.

HARRY BROCKBANK…5.5.

By no means a triumphant night for him but certainly more stable than it had been at the weekend. Got his body in the way of a few shots that would have tested Dixon.

ALEX BAPTISTE…5 Called on for experience and yet the word for the night was naivety. Even leaving aside the comedic third goal, his return to the side had been a difficult one.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…5.5.

Like Brockbank, defended the goalmouth resolutely at times, but won’t be especially pleased with his first night as captain.

LIAM GORDON…6.

Had license to venture forward and got into some reasonable positions. Looked positive on the ball when the conditions allowed him but the quality lacked.

MJ WILLIAMS…5.5.

Not quite as involved as he had been against Wigan – and in a game of two contrasting formations, it was Plymouth’s extra man in midfield that really stood out.

KIERAN LEE…5.5.

Back in the side after injury but not as involved, nor as neat and tidy on the ball as he had been in his last few games.

LLOYD ISGROVE…5.5.

Felt a little for the winger, who looked to be positive and use the space on the right when he got played into the game. Sadly, that was not often enough.

JOSH SHEEHAN…5.

Really not his kind of game, one spent chasing back towards his own goal. Unable to add any subtlety or enough creativity to the occasion.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.5.

If Wanderers were going to score, it was almost certainly going to come through Dapo. Involved in the few attacks that made a dent.

AMADOU BAKAYOKO…4.5.

There has been a clamour to see him front and centre, and this was the kind of occasion to do it, but the big man just didn’t get into the game at all.

Subs: Sarcevic 5.5, 63 (for Lee) – Energetic but should have scored.

Kachunga 5, 66 (for Isgrove) – Struggled to get involved.

Doyle 5, 66 (for Bakayoko) – Almost all his work was on half way.

Not used: Gilks, Delfouneso, Aimson, Thomason.

Plymouth (3-5-2) – Cooper; Wilson, Scarr, Galloway; Edwards, Pereira, Houghton, Broom, Grant; Hardie, Garrick.

Subs: Mayor 71 (for Camara), Jephcott 79 (for Garrick) Not used: Gillesphey, Agard, Randell, Burton, Law.

Referee: Keith Stroud 7/10 – Could have done Wanderers a favour and called the game. But that minor gripe aside he did manage the occasion well.

Attendance: 12,813 (708).
