WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)

JOEL DIXON…6.5

There wasn’t much he could do with the goals in the first half but made a superb double save to deny Vadaine Oliver after the break. The stopper continues to improve and it is clear that he is good enough to play in League One.

LLOYD ISGROVE…6.5

Did a decent job at right back considering it isn’t his natural position and always looks lively going forward. Probably should have looked for a pass instead of shooting when played in on the right wing by Lee.

RICARDO SANTOS…5.5

A tough afternoon for the new captain, who was up against the physical John Akinde. He is usually so calm and composed on the ball but lost possession away several times in his own half.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…6

Made a couple of mistakes before being forced off at half-time due to injury. Made a vital interception on the stroke of half-time as the Gills looked to counter.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5

Put in some dangerous crosses and was generally one of Bolton’s better performers on his return from injury. Nearly made a costly error when his poor clearance fell to Oliver in the box, but the forward blazed over.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.5

Was steady as always in midfield and has become a vital part of Wanderers’ system, protecting the back four. Missed a golden opportunity at 2-0 after getting on the end of Doyle’s flick-on.

KIERAN LEE...6.5

Has a knack for popping up with goals and came to Wanderers' rescue in injury time. He has formed a decent partnership with Williams in recent weeks.

ELIAS KACHUNGA…6

Had a couple of promising moments in the second half but still yet to show his full potential at Bolton. Had a well-struck effort tipped over the bar by Jamie Cumming in the latter stages.

JOSH SHEEHAN…6

Nothing seemed to go his way in the first half but the Welshman kept plugging away in the middle of the pitch. His set-pieces were well below his high standards.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…8

Tried to make things happen in the first half and produced a moment of quality to get his side back in the game. Looked good in the Number 10 role and it will be interesting to see if Evatt continues to use him there in the coming weeks.

EOIN DOYLE…6

Was isolated at times in the first half, which has been a regular problem for Wanderers against sides who sit back and defend deep. Should have had an assist for Williams in the second half.
