LLOYD Isgrove isn’t enjoying playing as a right-back for Wanderers – but Ian Evatt reckons he has a funny way of showing it!

The winger has dropped into the back four over the past few weeks as cover for the injured Gethin Jones and produced a man-of-the-match performance against Crewe at the UniBol on Friday night.

Evatt admits his a somewhat reluctant defender would rather be playing further up the pitch.

“You know full well with Lloyd, and I have spoken about it many times, that he is the one in the wider forward positions that you can trust with those defensive responsibilities and to do his duties,” he said.

“Is he enjoying playing there? No, but he’s doing a job for the team and he’s doing a job for his manager and he’s doing it really well. I can’t speak highly enough of his attitude.”

Though Isgrove might not be enjoying his stint as a full-back, his performances have caught the eye on his team-mates.

“He has been unbelievable. He’s like a little Energiser Bunny,” remarked Josh Sheehan.

“He never stops running, he is constantly moving forward, and I think he has done really well since going in there. He maybe doesn’t want to play as a full-back but he is putting in some shift and he is going to be hard to move, I think, the way he is playing.”

Sheehan believes the Whites were indebted to Isgrove in Friday night’s game for giving them some forward momentum against a deep-lying Crewe side.

“He was a big outlet for us, especially first half, and the plan was to get the ball out wide, getting him in higher positions, because the switch was on quite a lot for us – me and Will (Aimson) got a few of them,” he said.

“He was the main threat and put a few good balls in where Baka was a bit unlucky not to score. Izzy shows how good a player he is by playing so well in a couple of positions.”
