WANDERERS (4-2-3-1).

JOEL DIXON…6.

Smart stop from Sercombe early on but won’t be happy that May’s first goal slipped under his body and undid some of his solid work.

LIAM GORDON…7.

Clear as day that he is playing on his wrong side and, as such, some of the more natural crosses and movements are slower to arrive. But some effort, nonetheless.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.5.

Should have been celebrating his first Bolton goal and defensively gave as good as he got against the mobile May and deeper-lying Crowley.

WILL AIMSON…6.5.

Primarily occupied with the big man, Vassell, and stuck to his task well. Got into the game and saw more of the ball more when switched to a three at the back.

DECLAN JOHN…7.5.

Didn’t let a lot in behind him – but going forward he was a pleasure to watch at times, particularly in his combinations with Kachunga.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…6.

Saw more of the ball than anyone else and took a little time to figure out where Cheltenham’s weak spots were. Tracking Crowley provide an early issue.

KIERAN LEE…7.

Showed such quality on the ball at times you wish Wanderers could get him more involved. Won the ball well for the first goal on the edge of the box.

ELIAS KACHUNGA…8.

Enjoying himself at the moment, flitting either side of the attack, using pace and energy and now supplying a regular source of goals.

GEORGE THOMASON…7.

It was like a light was switched on after half an hour, as Thomason sussed out how to get his wing-backs into the game. From there on in, everything went through him.

XAVIER AMAECHI…7.

Added the touch of unpredictability missing with Dapo’s suspension. Tired in the second half but got a goal, and an appetising thought for the weeks to come.

EOIN DOYLE…6.

One of those afternoons that, but for a matter of inches, could have ended in a hat-trick. Always in the mix and looks hungry at the moment.

Subs: Delfouneso 5, 70 (for Amaechi) – Looks short on confidence.

Baptiste 84 (for Gordon) – Nearly grabbed a winner.

Not used: Gilks, Tweedley, Conway, Henry, Pettifer.

Cheltenham (4-2-3-1): Flinders; Horton, Long, Pollock, Hussey; Sercombe, Chapman; Joseph, Crowley (Williams 89), May (Norton 84); Vassell (Wright 62).

Not used: Evans, Barkers, Armitage.

Referee: Ross Joyce 7/10 – Wanderers swear blind Santos’s goal should not have been chalked off but that was the fault of his assistant. Joyce kept the game flowing well, and probably got the penalty appeal right at the bitter end.

Attendance: 13,145.
