WANDERERS (4-3-3)

JOEL DIXON…7.

Made two excellent saves within a few seconds of each other in the second half and stood up well in the barrage of crosses he faced.

ADAM SENIOR…6.

Worked hard to get up and support Kachunga but Rotherham did exploit the times he was out of position.

RICARDO SANTOS…7.

Produced some big moments which got the crowd onside but won’t be happy with the two goals scored by Smith.

WILL AIMSON…7.

Defended manfully at times against one of League One’s most physical attacks. Starting to become a leader at the back.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5.

One of the players who has been really poorly with Covid – and after a great first half he started to flag, allowing those crosses to rain into the box.

GEORGE THOMASON…6.5.

Guilty on occasion of trying to overcomplicate things on the ball but competed admirably and showed a few touches of class amid the midfield chaos.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…7.5.

Really impressive stint for a lad who would much prefer to have been playing centre-back in a game where Wanderers barely saw the ball.

NATHAN DELFOUNESO…6.

A completely foreign position for Delfouneso, which showed at times, but he tracked back, won tackles and did all he could.

ELIAS KACHUNGA…6.5.

Looked pretty sharp when Bolton could get him into the game. Pressed well and created a great chance for Doyle early on.

EOIN DOYLE…6.5.

Grabbed an eighth goal of the season – and who knows if it will be his last in a Wanderers shirt? Ran hard, as ever.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…7.

The miss at the end will have been tough to take but this was Dapo back towards his best. Closed down defenders, teased them with the ball. Effective.

Subs: Bakayoko 71 (for Doyle) – Not up to speed yet but a welcome return.

Brockbank 77 (for Senior) – Put himself around and sliced one shot over the bar.

Gordon 85 (for John) – Surely a certain starter at Hartlepool, as John’s race was run.

Not used: Gilks, Baptiste, Tweedley, Pettifer.

Rotherham (3-1-4-2): Johansson; Edmonds-Green, Wood, Ihiekwe; Barlaser; Ogbene, Rathbone, Wiles, Ferguson; Smith, Ladapo.

Subs: Sadlier 62 (for Wiles), Kayode 72 (for Ladapo), Lindsay 90+3 (for Rathbone).

Not used: Harding, Grigg, Bola, Vickers.

Referee: Geoff Eltringham 5/10.

Really got it wrong on Afolayan in the first half, when Wood clearly brought him down en route to goal. Credit to him, though, for diffusing the situation with Evatt rather than simply flashing another yellow card.

Must also be said that Eiltringham’s assistant on the dugout side did not have a great day, either.

Attendance: 9,736 (991)
