WANDERERS (5-3-2).

JAMES TRAFFORD…7.

Nerves were on show for about 15 minutes, which were understandable, but after the save from Evans the City loanee really grew into the game. Great start.

MARLON FOSSEY…7.

Has the makings of a real cult hero at Wanderers already. Positive on the ball, scraps for everything, and had a really effective first half.

GETHIN JONES…7.5.

How good is it to see him back? Such a calming influence in a new look defence and understands the assignment as well as anyone out there.

RICARDO ALMEIDA SANTOS…8.5.

Produced a few defensive moments that had fans clenching their fist in celebration. Been subdued of late – but this was prime Rico.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…6.5.

Feeling his way a little. Couple of passes went astray but always willing to take the ball, and someone who should thrive in this system.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5.

A couple of moments of genuine quality, which makes you think this formation could also bring the best out of him. Some scrappier parts, too, but encouraging.

KIERAN LEE…7.5.

Asked to do more in the attacking areas and came up with the goods. Such a class act when he is in this type of form.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.5.

Sat deep and tried to protect the back four. Maybe not as involved as he usually would be but nice and tidy in possession.

AARON MORLEY…7.

Encouraging debut for the young midfielder, who wasn’t afraid to try something different on the ball. Didn’t all come off – but clearly an intelligent player.

DION CHARLES…7.5.

Considering he is still short on match fitness, the Northern Ireland international is making an impact. Keen to impress and the home support has reacted.

AMADOU BAKAYOKO…6.5.

Not everything came off – but there was a recognition among the home support when he went off at the end that he had put in a shift.

Subs: Afolayan 70 (for Charles) – Big call to drop him. But this was the right response. 7.

Aimson 90+2 (for Jones), Delfouneso 90+3 (for Bakayoko).

Not used: Dixon, Thomason, Baptiste, Gordon.

Ipswich (3-4-1-2): Walton; Donacien, Woolfenden, Edmundson; Burns, Evans, Morsy, Penney (Vincent-Young 70); Akulo (Chaplin 82); Norwood (Celina 70), Bonne.

Not used: Pigott, Carroll, Burgess, Hladky.

Referee: Bobby Madley 8/10 – Steadily becoming Bolton’s favourite referee. Can’t really recall a decision that could be called into question. Happy days.

Attendance: 14,020 (1,054).
