For drama, we will struggle to match this outing to face the Shrimps.

As the Bolton Army created a record attendance at the Mazuma Stadium, we chose the train to Lancaster to sample the local hostelries. Over a large breakfast at the Sir Robert Owen, we were cautiously optimistic that we could extend our unbeaten run but were wary of Morecambe’s ability to spring the odd surprise.

As we took our seats in the Beyond Radio stand, we were delighted to be joined by Fabrice Muamba. The weather conditions were atrocious as a gale force wind tore in from the Irish Sea with frequent heavy showers.

The match had nil-nil written all over it until the referee intervened for the first time, when he gave a very dubious penalty for hand ball against Ricardo Santos and then to rub salt in the wound, sent him off.

James Trafford brilliantly saved the penalty, but we were up against it from that point onwards. Morecambe caught us on the break and Carl Stockton showed why is he a top goalscorer.

Then the drama started. The referee stopped play to have a lengthy discussion with Ian Evatt. At first, we all thought that Evatt was going to add to his tally of yellow cards.

But no, play carried on for a few minutes before the referee stopped play again with Ian Evatt appearing to call his players off the pitch. The referee did take both sets of players off for over 10 minutes.

The rumour was that there had been racial abuse and at least one of their fans had been detaineds.

Play eventually resumed and it was poetic justice when Amadou Bakayoko snatched a late equaliser, causing an invasion of the pitch by the relieved Wanderers fans.

Full marks and respect go to Ian Evatt for standing up against the racist abuse. Shame on the Bolton idiot who threw the plastic bottle at their goalkeeper.

Now the authorities need to take strong action against those responsible to stamp out something that should not be happening in the 21st century.
