WANDERERS have appealed the red card handed to captain Ricardo Santos during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Morecambe.

The defender was sent off by referee Ross Joyce for deliberate handball in the second half of a stormy game at the Mazuma Stadium.

But Wanderers are looking to have the card wiped off, and have launched their appeal this morning to the Football Association's disciplinary committee.

Speaking after the game, Ian Evatt said his side would review the footage from different angles before passing the matter on to club secretary, Simon Marland.

“I have to see the footage and if it’s clear and obvious, which we think it is, then of course we will appeal,” he said.

Amadou Bakayoko also said on Saturday that his team-mate had insisted the shot, from Jonah Ayunga, had bounced off his chest and shoulder.

“I didn’t get a good view but speaking to Rico, there is a clear mark on his shoulder and hopefully we can get that sorted and get him back as soon as possible,” he added.

Santos was also sent off earlier in the season in a 3-0 defeat at Fleetwood and currently stands to miss Tuesday’s League One game against Charlton Athletic.

Evatt has also confirmed that Kieran Lee missed the second half of Saturday’s game with a minor injury, which could also rule him out in midweek.

“He’s had a bit of a sore heel but today the game wasn’t suited to Kieran or Kieran Sadlier, our technical players. It was just a day for rolling up our sleeves and doing as best as we can,” he said.

Wanderers had THREE red cards rescinded last season, given to Evatt himself at Tranmere, Marcus Maddison against Morecambe and MJ Williams against Stevenage.

Before that, the club had been unsuccessful in every attempt to overturn a red card for the previous 10 years.
