PLYMOUTH boss Steven Schumacher says Wanderers have some “unbelievable forward players” following his side’s 1-0 win at the UniBol.

Macaulay Gillesphey got the decisive goal, heading home at the far post from a corner two minutes before the break.

Dion Charles and substitute Elias Kachunga both went close in the second half but the Whites were unable to find an equaliser.

Schumacher insists Wanderers have real quality in the final third and was delighted with his side’s defensive effort.

“Bolton have been in great form, they’ve got some unbelievable forward players,” said the Plymouth chief.

“The players they brought in in January when they strengthened, Dion Charles, Bodvarsson has been in good form. They bring Kachunga on who has played at a high level.

“Afolayan is always a threat when he come inside on his right foot and when he moved out to that left-hand side, he’s dangerous. He put the cross in for Kachunga’s chance at the back post.

“But you understand that when you come to Bolton Wanderers, you’re going to have to defend and see periods out.

“I thought our lads were really calm and didn’t commit too many fouls, which is important. Mike (Cooper) has made another great save and we’ve rode our luck once when they hit the post.”

Speaking after the game, Ian Evatt admitted his frustrations over the way the Pilgrims ran down the clock.

But Schumacher reckons the Whites would have done the same had they been leading in the final stages.

He added: “I know their fans were going mad because we were taking our time with set-pieces but that’s part and parcel of the game.

“If they were winning 1-0 they would do exactly the same. Senior heads seeing the game out.”
