WANDERERS (3-4-1-2).

JAMES TRAFFORD…6.

Never really tested seriously – and perhaps should have been in the second half by Sambou. Looked more confident collecting crosses.

WILL AIMSON…7.

Got stuck in and was one of Bolton’s reliable customers on the day. Didn’t have to worry much about stepping into midfield with the ball. Kept things simple.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.5.

Barring one lapse in concentration with a poor header, the centre-half coped pretty comfortably with everything Crewe threw his way.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…7.5.

Defended well, won his headers, then created the winning goal. Not a bad day’s work for the centre-back ahead of a return to Wigan.

KIERAN SADLIER…6.

Not a pitch or conditions which suited his natural game but Sadlier put the work in and arguably had the toughest marking job of the lot against Ainley.

AARON MORLEY…6.5.

Morley got on the ball as much as he could and kept possession as well as anyone. Not his type of game by any means but he rolled up his sleeves.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.

Pretty quiet in the first half but nearly grabbed himself a goal after the break after picking up a good position on the edge of the box.

DECLAN JOHN…6.5.

Didn’t see as much of the ball as he usually would, and this wasn’t the sort of surface that suits his running style, but he kept going. Admirable.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.

Struggled to get into it at the start but caught keeper Richards by surprise with a shot that hit the post. Will have better days.

JON DADI BODVARSSON…5.5.

Worked hard in a tepid first half. One half-chance fell to him early on but otherwise it was a fairly fruitless day for him and the other strikers.

DION CHARLES…5.5.

Spent most of the game being admonished by the referee. Frustrating day for the Northern Ireland international but he stuck to the task.

Subs: Bakayoko 72 (for Bodvarsson) – My word. That’s the way to finish a game!

Kachunga 75 (for Afolayan) – His hard work won the free kick.

Dempsey 80 (for Williams) – Great to see him back. Looked hungry.

Not used: Gordon, Baptiste, Thomason, Amaechi.

Crewe (3-5-2): Richards; Johnson, Offord, Williams; Lundstram, Harper, Lowery, Ainley, Finney; Sambou, Long.

Subs: Murphy 70 (for Finney), Porter 77 (for Harper), Griffiths 82 (for Ainley).

Not used: Jaaskelainen, O’Riordan, Lawton, Salisbury.

Referee: Sam Purkiss 5/10 – Felt like he blew his whistle every 30 seconds in the first half. Didn’t help what was already a difficult game to watch.

Attendance: 5,895.
