HORWICH RMI are just two steps away from becoming the best indoor six-a-side team in the country.

The winners of the Bolton League’s Anthony Axford Indoor Trophy travelled to Derbyshire at the weekend for the quarter-finals of the ECB National Club Six-a-side Indoor Cricket Cup and successfully defeated both teams they came up against - which means a trip to Lords on April 3 for the semis and, potentially, the final - the first time in 20 years a side from the Bolton League has reached Lords - the last being Walkden in 2002.

Their first game was against Tynedale from Northumbria and Horwich bowled them out for 92 before chasing down the total with five overs to spare, losing only one wicket.

Top run scorers were Josh Little, with 25 not out, Jack Berry (18), Tom Billington (19no) and Jordan Higham (15no).

In the final match, they met 2019 finalists, Grasshoppers from Shropshire.

Horwich batted first and recovered from losing two quick wickets with the score on eight to reach a total of 99, mainly thanks to Lewis Haydock, with 27no, and Sam Little, who scored 26no.

Grasshoppers were bowled out for 95 in reply, Sam Little taking 3-13 from his three overs and Lewis Haydock taking 2-10 from his three. to seal progress to the home of cricket.
