FORMER Wanderers head of recruitment Irfan Kawri has been invited to be part of Paul Fairclough’s England C team camp for their upcoming clash with Wales.

The match is set to take place on Wednesday, March 30 (KO 7pm) at The Oval, home of Caernarfon Town.

It was initially scheduled for March 2020 but the fixture was postponed due to the pandemic.

Kawri - who has also worked with QPR, Burton, Wigan and Chorley - has been involved with the England youth set-up in recent months.

The Bolton-born coach is now relishing to work with the C squad, which is made up of players from the National League and below.

“I have been given the opportunity to go and add value where I can as a coach,” said Kawri.

“It’s a really good opportunity to work with first team players, and it’s the best players outside the Football League.

“That mainly consists of the National League and a lot of those players will be full-time as well, so the calibre of players is very good.

“It’s going to be a good group to work with and a good opportunity. The squad looks exciting.”

“The mentorship is putting the icing on the cake for me personally and professionally, with the things I’m taking and applying to my work.”

Kawri also served as Wanderers’ head of recruitment during the 2019/20 campaign after being brought in by then-manager Keith Hill.

He admits his time at the UniBol had its ups and downs but says he learned a lot from the experience.

Speaking in December, he said: “It was a very turbulent time. I think it definitely made me more resilient – that comes with the territory of football,” added Kawri.

“I always reflect back on whatever role I’ve had and see what positives I can take from it, and sometimes the negatives are a good thing because you learn from it.”
