WANDERERS are interested in signing Cambridge full-back Jack Iredale in the summer, according to a report.

Iredale has impressed in League One this season and has been an almost ever-present figure for the U’s.

The 25-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he seems likely to leave the Abbey Stadium.

Preston and Wigan have also been linked with the full-back but the Whites are emerging as the frontrunners, according to Alan Nixon.

Ian Evatt’s current left-back options include Declan John and Liam Gordon, with the latter’s contract set to expire this summer.

Iredale can also play as a centre-back and could perhaps follow in Gethin Jones’ footsteps by making the transition to a back three.

The Australian played in a 2-0 defeat at the UniBol back in February but was forced off due to injury on the stroke of half-time.

Wanderers brought in seven fresh faces during the January transfer window, including the likes of Dion Charles, Aaron Morley and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

And Evatt is confident there will be further additions before next season as the Whites aim to continue their climb up the divisions.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: “I think as a professional football player and one like plays for such a big club and a progressive club, you have to expect that there are going to be incomings.

“I remember as a player, managers would bring in new defenders every summer and you have to back yourself to be better than them and play. It’s simple.”
