WANDERERS have exciting plans for the summer transfer window – but Ian Evatt has refused to confirm whether Cambridge United’s Jack Iredale is part of them.

The 25-year-old defender has been strongly linked with a move to the University of Bolton Stadium this summer, with some reports claiming the Whites are about to beat Championship Preston North End to sign him on a free transfer.

Evatt has hinted that he will be backed with cash this summer by owners Football Ventures but asked whether Iredale is on his shopping list the Bolton boss was coy.

“People that are still attached to football clubs, it would be really disrespectful of me to speak about any individuals,” he said.

“But as I said, there’s lots of work happening behind the scenes on recruitment. There’s conversations taking place.

“You guys will have to wait and see as to who we bring in.” Evatt has challenged his players to keep their foot on the gas over the Easter weekend and build on some encouraging results this month.

Draws against Portsmouth, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday have proved Bolton have not clocked off for the season and Evatt believes they have a responsibility to continue right to the end.

“We have challenged the players to try and stay unbeaten for the remainder of the season. We did that a couple of weeks ago and they have managed to do that so far,” he said.

“That has to be our aim and target, and to pick up as many points as we can. If we can finish in the top 10, that would be great. It would be a huge achievement from where this football club was two years ago.

“That is our aim and ambition and it looks like we are going to have a big say in the relegation battle, which is also important.

“I think that last game of the season has a bit of irony about it, we are looking forward to that one. But in the meantime, we have just got to keep going, keep working hard and try to get as many points as possible.”

Evatt says he has no problem getting the message across to his players that the last four games remain important.

“There’s an expectancy here to win football matches," he said. "I told the players a couple of weeks back that even though it doesn’t look like we’ve got a lot to play for, there’s always something to play for.

"You’ve got professionalism, personal pride and also the fact that we’ve got another transfer window coming up and they need to make sure they’re still in the plans for next season because things change really quickly in football and this club progressing, it’s only going one way, so they want to be part of those plans.”
