DAPO Afolayan’s insistence that he sees himself in a Wanderers shirt next season has not stifled reports that another club has joined his list of suitors.

Europa League finalists Rangers have now been linked with the winger, who finished the season as Bolton’s top scorer in League One.

Fulham and Cardiff City have both watched Afolayan in recent months but – as yet – Wanderers have not been tested with a bid.

The report, contained within journalist Alan Nixon’s Patreon account, claims that the 24-year-old is rated at £1.5million.

Rangers are said to expect bids for some of their attacking players this summer and could make a move for the former West Ham star.

The same account claims that Bolton are among the clubs looking at pacy winger Tom Barkhuizen, who has been released by Preston North End.

Rotherham United and Derby County are also said to be chasing the 28-year-old’s signature.

Afolayan said last week that he felt Wanderers matched his own ambitions to play in the Championship and beyond.

“I said in one of my first interviews at Bolton that absolutely everything is here,” he told The Bolton News. “It is just about getting things together on the pitch, working together, and I think we’re starting to do that.

“Promotion is exactly what our aim is. I don’t think there is anything wrong with saying that.

“I think that any club in this league should be targeting promotion – it’s what you have to do.

“We want to be playing in the Championship and the Premier League and especially for me as a player that is what I look up to and what I want to do with this club.”
