TURTON FC Under-14s completed a cup double when they beat Daisy Hill 3-0 in the final of the Bolton and Bury District Chairman’s Cup.

The victory added to their recent triumph in the Weymouth Classic Tournament and rounded off a successful campaign for the squad.

In the final held at the Bolton Wanderers Academy in Lostock on Saturday, Turton dominated from the first whistle, playing with an intensity Daisy Hill could not match.

They took the lead on two minutes with a superb finish from Schadrack Assani, taking his goal tally to 24 for the season.

Turton went 2-0 up on nine minutes following an excellent move down the left, nicely finished by Fally Kiraba.

The third, a penalty, came after Assani was fouled following a mazy run, and the spot-kick was slotted away nicely by David Moshi on 25 minutes.

Despite a renewed effort in the second half by Daisy Hill, Turton were able to restrict them to one shot on target resulting in a fantastic one-handed save from Turton Keeper Zack Twigden.

Turton manager Matt Eddleston, said: “It was a thoroughly-deserved victory and the players executed the plan perfectly.

“The sky is the limit for this group, they have worked extremely hard all season and to win two cups this year is testament to their application, resilience and desire.”

Team captain, Jayden Cain, added: “I’m very proud to lead this team.

“It is a great set of lads who always give everything for the team.”

Team-mate, defender Goodness Gospel agreed and said: “I’m so happy for the boys.

“To win it so convincingly with a clean sheet was the cherry on the icing on the cake.”

Turton now have a couple of weeks rest before turning their attention to pre-season and preparing for what they hope will be another successful and enjoyable campaign in 2022/23.
