Bolton Cricket League leaders Westhoughton cruised to their 10th win of the season with a 117-run defeat of Atherton on Sunday.

Westhoughton posted 261-7, mainly thanks to a 171-run partnership between Kamran Younus (121) and Joe Curme (72). Saif Ur-Rehman was the pick of the bowlers with 5-83.

Atherton had few answers to Westhoughton’s bowling attack with sub-pro Kashif Bhatti taking 5-29. Only pro Zain Abbas (36) and Robert Harper (47) put up resistance in Atherton’s 144 all out.

Second-placed Horwich powered to an eight-wicket victory over Kearsley at Springfield Road. Kearsley posted a very competitive 277, mainly thanks to captain Cam Murray, Abel Mokhuane (69) and Mo Jameel (51), Jack Berry mopping up the tail with 5-57.

Kearsley’s injury-ravaged bowling attack had no answer to overseas amateur James Enslin (106) and knocked the runs off with 12 overs to spare for the loss of only two wickets.

The game of the day was undoubtedly the local derby played at Piggott Park. Batting first, Farnworth Social Circle amassed a huge total of 337, thanks to tons by Jameel Stuart (158) and pro Ayres (106). Danny Higham was the pick of the Farnworth bowlers with 5-65.

Farnworth replied impressively and, mainly thanks to an incredible 129 not out from professional Milinda Siriwaedana, reached their target with five overs to spare. The pro was ably supported by Joe Settle (55), Ross Sutton (66) and Simon Booth (47no).

Blackrod got the better of Eagley in a tight game at Vicarage Road, Blackrod posting 231-7 mainly thanks to pro Ankit Lamba (87) and Tush De Zoysa (59).

Eagley fell short by only three runs with Harvey Seigne scoring 64 and Asif Hussain 65.

Astley Bridge beat Lostock in another high-scoring affair at Chew Moor, Lostock posting 278-5 (Rehman 95, James Evans 50).

In reply, Bridge reached their target for the loss of seven wickets with sub-pro Shreevats Goswami scoring 125 and wicketkeeper Matthew Hargraves hitting 49. Adam Syddall was the pick of the Lostock bowlers with 5-61.

Tonge professional Chetan Bisht struck 85 as they posted 258-9, Matthew Mill the pick of the bowlers with 4-85.

Captain Josh Gent (55) and Adam Carter (49) led the reply as The Villagers reached their target in the last over with two wickets to spare.

In the day’s remaining fixture, Walkden beat Little Hulton by seven wickets. Little Hulton were 232 all out (Ali Shan 44, A Mufti 3-37), before Walkden scored 235-3 (A Mufti 83no).

On Saturday, Astley Bridge sub professional Asher Zaidi took six wickets for just nine runs as Little Hulton were dismissed for 77 in quick fashion in the Bolton Cricket League last weekend.

Not content with starring with the ball, he then hit 31 not out to take Bridge to a six-wicket victory.

Elsewhere, the highest score of the day was Stuart’s 156 from 84 balls as Farnworth Social Circle totalled 289-6.

Tonge recovered from 39-6 to reach 161, Ben Hamilton taking 5-82.

Second highest knock was Matthew Morris’ 149 which included century partnerships with Rob Houghton and Marlon Welcome-Goodman. Chasing 289, Farnworth were 98-1 with Sutton making 69, but they were eventually bowled out for 216.

Nick Jeff’s half-century helped Lostock from 69-6 to 177, then Walkden slipped from 38-0 to 122, with Rob Holgate taking 4-44.

Aneeq Hussain hit 77 for Little Lever and Adam Carter 50 in their 222-6. Atherton replied with 138, Robert Harper hitting 50 and Nipun Gaikwad taking 5-22.

Tush de Zoysa took 6-59 to help dismiss Kearsley for 124, then made 45no in Blackrod’s six-wicket victory.

Joe Baldwin struck 61 as Horwich reached 80 without loss, but Josh Fallows took four wickets and Harvey Seign three with all 10 wickets falling for a further 63 runs. Jack Berry’s 4-52 was the main reason Eagley fell short.
