Former Wanderers midfielder Josh Cullen has joined North West neighbours Burnley for an undisclosed fee.

Cullen joined the Whites on loan from West Ham back in 2017 and went on to make 12 appearances for the club.

The midfielder returns to England after spending the past couple of seasons in Belgium with Anderlecht, where he played under new Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.

He has also represented the Republic of Ireland more than 20 times since making his debut in a 3-1 win against Bulgaria back in 2019.

Cullen has put pen to paper over a three-year deal at Turf Moor as the club aims to bounce back from last season’s relegation from the Premier League.

“I’m really happy. It’s been something that’s been going on for a couple of weeks now, so I’m just happy it’s all done and dusted. I’m looking forward to the new season now,” he told the club’s website.

“The season will come around fast now. I can’t wait to get the shirt on in some of the friendlies, and then the main event kicks off in a few weeks’ time.”

Cullen becomes Burnley’s sixth summer signing along with Scott Twine, Luke McNally, CJ Egan-Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Samuel Bastien.

However, they have lost the likes of James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Nick Pope, Wout Weghorst and now Nathan Collins, who completed a move to Wolves earlier today.

Kompany added: “We are delighted to welcome Josh to the squad, he’s a hard-working and brave player, that will give everything for the team and the club.

“Josh is an intelligent midfielder, who is good on the ball and will help improve our side.”
