CONSTRUCTION on the new FanZone at the University of Bolton Stadium continued yesterday in preparation for the new season.

The club is confident work will be completed in time for the first home game of the campaign, against Wycombe, and that new bars - beer and Prosecco - and food services will be up and running to cater for around 1,000 supporters at once.

The Bolton News understands that top local restaurant Nam Ploy are one of the principal partners on the venture, and that their renowned Thai cuisine will be served in one of the refreshment kiosks.

The FanZone will open at least three hours before kick-off and will also show live football, when available, along with highlights of Wanderers games from past and present.

The Bolton News:

Wanderers have had to overcome a number of planning hurdles to get the projects green-lighted by the council, moving their original plan to build the FanZone outside Bolton Central.

There will be ample shelter for when the rain and wind inevitably arrive at the UniBol this winter and also plans for live music from local bands.

Wanderers have invested this summer in smartening up and cleaning the new stadium - with fans able to get their first look at this weekend’s home friendly with Huddersfield Town.

Various doors, walls and sections of concourse have been re-painted in the same deep-blue colour, large portions of the stadium has been re-carpeted and the tunnel area has also been refurbished, removing the old extendable coverings with new seating for the management, coaching staff and substitutes.

There is new signage around the car parks and the reception area has also had a makeover in what is the biggest tidy-up operation the stadium has had in the last decade.

Fans’ seats were being cleaned yesterday as the pitch was given another once-over by ground-staff before the weekend’s game.

There has also been a noticeable change to the frontage of the hotel, which has been rebranded as the Bolton Stadium Hotel as part of the deal with Radisson Individuals.
