IAN Evatt has allayed concern over Jon Dadi Bodvarsson after the striker missed Wanderers’ final pre-season friendly at the UniBol on Saturday.

The Icelander sat out the 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town with a minor foot injury sustained in training last week – but is not expected to be missing for long.

Bolton have managed to keep a fit squad for most of the summer and now have Josh Sheehan and Lloyd Isgrove back in full training.

Bodvarsson has had his foot checked out by the medical staff and is awaiting the thumbs-up to return to Lostock this week to contest a place in the squad against Ipswich Town in this season’s League One curtain raiser.

Explaining the former Reading and Wolves striker’s absence, Evatt said after the game on Saturday: “He’s got a slight kick, that’s all it is, a bruised foot.

“He wanted to soldier on, that’s Jon, he’s a fantastic guy, a big player for us, but playing not 100 per cent fit is no good to anybody.

“We need to get him right for the start of the season. He will be back in training next week.

“We’ve had it scanned and looked at. It is nothing really, just a bit of bruising in his foot and credit to the fitness staff and credit to the rest of the coaching staff that we have got through pre-season.

“We look extremely fit and they’re all in one piece which is great.”
