Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna reckons his side are in “a strong place” ahead of Saturday’s opener against Wanderers.

McKenna is preparing for his first full season in charge at Portman Road after succeeding Paul Cook back in December.

The former Manchester United coach says there is “a lot to be positive about” from their pre-season preparations and hopes they can get off to a positive start against the Whites.

"We look in a strong place,” he told the club’s website. “I think everyone is looking forward to getting through this week and getting the ball rolling on Saturday against Bolton.

"There’s a lot to be positive about and look forward to, but we know we have to keep improving.

“That’s not just this week; we need to keep improving over the next few weeks and months.”

Marcus Harness could line up against Ian Evatt’s men after completing a permanent move from Portsmouth.

The versatile wideman scored 12 goals in 44 appearances last season as Pompey finished 10th in League One.

McKenna added: "He’s fitted in really well with the group and is a lovely character who is really hungry to do well.

"You could see it with some of his receiving in between the lines and some of his ball carrying. His clever little passes and combinations are going to be a big addition to us.”

McKenna’s side drew 1-1 with Championship outfit Millwall over the weekend and also have a friendly against Southend on Tuesday night.

Wanderers recorded an emphatic 5-2 win at Portman Road last season thanks to goals from Eoin Doyle, Josh Sheehan, George Johnston and a Dapo Afolayan brace.
