Wanderers kicked off the season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ipswich, but which players caught the eye?

JAMES TRAFFORD…8

Distribution looked shaky at times early on but made a couple of crucial saves to deny Evans and Morsy during the second half. Re-signing the England Under-21 international could prove to be a huge piece of business come the end of the season.

CONOR BRADLEY…7

Handled the occasion well on his first competitive appearances for Wanderers after joining on loan from Liverpool. Had some bright moments going forward, particularly in the opening 45 minutes, and seems a good fit for Wanderers’ system.

GETHIN JONES…6.5

Still getting used to playing with Bradley on the right of defence but was reliable as always as the backline held off sustained pressure during the second half. Hopefully, the Welshman can have a season free of injuries after his frustrations at times last term.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.5

Commanding presence at the heart of defence as always and won his fair share of headers, which will probably be something I write many times over the coming season! His leadership will be a big asset for the Whites in the coming weeks and months.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…7.5

Lost count of how many blocks he made – particularly a vital one to deny Woolfenden when Wanderers were under pressure on the stroke of half-time. Seems to be relishing the extra competition as a result of Jack Iredale’s arrival.

DECLAN JOHN…7

Had plenty of joy going forward during the opening 45 minutes, making the most of every opportunity to get forward and join the attack. Was unlucky not to get an assist with a superb cross during the second half.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.5

Worked hard in the middle of the pitch. His defensive traits were suited to the second half when Wanderers had to be resilient and make life hard for the hosts, who were eager to start with a win in front of a home crowd.

AARON MORLEY…7

Kept his cool to slot home with an emphatic penalty and did some important work dropping back to help the defence against a strong Ipswich attack. It’s easy to forget he is still only 22 years of age.

KIERAN LEE…6.5

Good to see the midfielder back in the side after missing the final stages of last season due to injury. Is a natural fit for the number 10 role but didn’t quite impact the game as much as he would have hoped.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.5

Looked to drive at the Ipswich defence during the first half and show his ability on the ball. Clearly a big player for the Whites but the debate will continue over which position is the best fit for him in Evatt’s current system.

DION CHARLES…6.5

Ran his socks off and his intense pressing caused the Ipswich defence countless problems until he was brought off for a rest. Just needed something to drop for him in the final third but showed some positive signs.
