Wanderers’ B Team wrapped up their pre-season schedule with a 2-2 draw at Warrington Town.

Matty Grivosti and Lamine Toure were both on target during the first half, while Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Sean Williams got on the scoresheet for the hosts.

The Whites started brightly and took an early lead when Grivosti pounced on an error by Warrington goalkeeper Tony Thompson and found the bottom corner with a composed finish.

Matthew Tweedley, who looked lively during the opening 45 minutes, then went close with a thumping strike from 25 yards.

Wanderers had a let-off at the other end when Jay Harris closed down Luke Hutchinson’s clearance only to see the ball grave the top of the bar.

But the hosts managed to get back on level terms when Buckley-Ricketts beat the offside trap and gave Hutchinson no chance with a ruthless finish.

Gerald Sithole felt he was brought down by the last man moments before the equaliser, but his appeals were waved away by referee Matty Corless.

Connor Stanley then fired straight at Thompson from a tight angle, before Buckley-Ricketts sent an ambitious effort wide from distance.

Sithole then did well to tee up Lockett in the box but he opted to take a touch and was unable to get a shot away.

Warrington went close 10 minutes before the break when Evan Gumbs found space in the box but couldn’t keep his header down.

And the Whites regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when Toure’s effort squirmed under Thompson’s grasp and over the line.

The goalkeeper made a smart stop to deny Grivosti at his near post early in the second half.

Substitute Conor Carty then won the ball back high up the pitch and played a dangerous cut-back, but the hosts managed to clear their lines.

But Wanderers were pegged back again midway through the second half when Mitch Duggan won a penalty and Sean Williams kept his cool to slot home from the spot.

Matty McDonald then tried his luck from distance but his effort sailed over the bar.

Warrington continued to apply pressure heading into the final stages, with Hutchinson making a smart stop to deny Mikey Howard.
