Ian Evatt says players have to be ready to make the most of opportunities that come their way at Wanderers.

Kyle Dempsey, Jack Iredale and Amadou Bakayoko all came into the side against Wycombe at the weekend and made a big impact.

“They need to [be ready], that is their job. If they don’t then we have got 12 or 13 others that can step in and take their place,” Evatt told The Bolton News.

“Players have to be ready to play, and that comes from the training ground. I’ve said this a lot - there isn’t a magic tap that you turn off and on day by day, or turn it on for Saturdays.

“That tap has to stay on all the time and you have to train how you play every single day. If you have that mentality and mindset and attitude, it really comes to the fore on Saturday and I thought we saw that [against Wycombe].”

Aaron Morley scored his second goal in as many games against Wycombe, beating the offside trap and slotting past Tyla Dickinson.

“He’s a young kid and people seem to forget that is a really young team out there as well,” Evatt added.

“James Trafford is 19, Conor Bradley only just turned 19, Aaron Morley 21 - these are really young lads, so we’ve got some good players but it’s only potential at the moment.

“We have to make sure that we realise that potential and that comes from staying humble, keep working hard and see what happens.”

Ricardo Santos also impressed in defence, winning countless headers against a Wycombe side who are dangerous in the air.

“I’m over the moon with a clean sheet and I’m over the moon with Rico,” said the manager.

“He was one that was very much in doubt. He’s had a bit of a strain in his plantar fascia and they can be nasty.

“It can be extremely painful, but he’s rolled his sleeves up and got through the game for us and he was outstanding.”
