Ian Evatt is pleased with how Jack Iredale has started life at Wanderers following a promising debut against Wycombe.

The defender impressed against the Chairboys as the Whites ran out 3-0 winners, making an impact at both ends of the pitch.

“He is still getting used to what we do and it’s probably completely different to what he’s been used to,” said the Bolton chief.

“(I am) delighted for him and for his debut to get off the mark with a win, but it is only one win. We have got lots of work to do.

“I enjoyed today. I enjoyed watching that because it looked a lot more like us than it did from last week.

“But we’ve got two more games this week which are going to be extremely challenging and we have to get ready to go again.”

Dion Charles missed out with a knock, with Amadou Bakayoko getting the nod up front ahead of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Evatt says his decision was helped by the fact that the Iceland international had a few niggles during pre-season.

He added: “We wanted some energy at the top end of the pitch and Baka can give us that.

“Jon has been nursing a few injuries during pre-season, nothing really major but enough for him not to get up to full speed. The last week, we’ve seen a significant difference in him.

“He’s a great man first and foremost. He’s really honest and we’ve been discussing his body and speaking about the injuries he’s been carrying because he just doesn't want to let anybody down.

“He loves being here. It’s kind of a home for him now and we know how important he’s going to be for us, so we don’t really need to take risks when players aren’t 100 per cent.

“But he showed what he can do when he came on and moving forwards he’ll be a huge player for us.”
