Wanderers forward Amadou Bakayoko has taken to social media to address his disallowed goal in the goalless draw at Port Vale.

Bakayoko felt his header had crossed the line before it was cleared by a defender early in the first half, but it wasn’t given by the officials.

That wasn’t the only major talking point at Vale Park, with the Whites having to play nearly an hour with 10 men after Ricardo Santos was shown a controversial second yellow card after following a tangle with Ellis Harrison.

Ian Evatt was also shown a red card by referee Ross Joyce during the break.

Close-up replays suggest that Bakayoko’s effort should have stood, which the former Coventry man acknowledged on his Twitter page after the game.

He wrote: "Cleared off the line,” along with three ‘eyes’ emojis.

“Unbelievable shift from everyone today. We stick together and keep fighting. Thank you for the away support, massively appreciated,” the forward added.

Port Vale goalkeeper Jack Stevens had earlier made a fine stop to deny Aaron Morley, while James Trafford made an equally impressive save at the other end to keep out Harrison’s header.

Evatt’s men have now picked up five points from their opening three league matches as they aim to build on last season’s ninth-place finish in League One.

The Whites are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Morecambe to the UniBol (KO 7:45pm).

The Shrimps were held to a 1-1 draw against Fleetwood Town this afternoon despite former Bolton midfielder Arthur Gnahoua’s first-half strike.
