Ian Evatt plans to keep his team in the freshest possible condition by ringing in the changes against Sheffield Wednesday.

After making five alterations to his starting line-up in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win against Morecambe, Evatt will have captain Ricardo Santos and striker Dion Charles available for selection against the Owls.

Such were the selection issues in midweek, B Team midfielder Nelson Khumbeni was drafted on to the bench at the UniBol having played 74 minutes against Fleetwood in the Central League.

But with more players on the comeback trail, Evatt is looking for ways to spread the opportunities across his squad.

“It’s important because we have so many games that we have to manage the workload,” he said. “We have players returning. Lloyd (Isgrove) and Josh Sheehan played in the B team today and came through fine, it’s great to see them back.

“Young George (Thomason) will be back against Aston Villa after suspension as well, and then Dion (Charles) is back for Saturday.

“Eoin Toal is back training tomorrow, so all of a sudden again it’s getting more difficult, but it’s the nature of the beast. I’m delighted with what we’ve got available. Everyone seems to think that we spend vast amounts of money but that’s not true and not the case. I think we have been strategic, we have been smart, and we are happy with where we are at.” Conor Bradley continues to catch the eye, with the young wing-back grabbing his second goal for Bolton against Morecambe.

Evatt knows he is fighting a losing battle trying to play down the Northern Ireland international’s recent form but believes he will improve as the season wears on.

“He is doing okay, if anyone from Liverpool is listening to this… he is going okay!” he smiled.

“He is a wonderful young man and his performances, I’m not surprised, I told you exactly how highly we rated him.

“But for me it is just his character and the way he is, he just loves the game, loves football, wants to learn, a wonderful young man with a fantastic attitude.”

Will Aimson had been patiently waiting for a league start but grabbed his opportunity with both hands against Morecambe.

Evatt admits Kieran Sadlier is in the same boat and hopes the former Doncaster Rovers midfielder can stay upbeat in the same way.

“I think Will is a really good player and I think he’s an important part of the squad,” the manager said. “We are blessed that we have some really good options all over the pitch.

“Kieran Sadlier, I’m wanting him to get on to create something for us and attack, and it’s just so tough when it’s so tight to make those decisions because Kieran’s more of an attacker. He is a great player and a big player for us as well so I just want them all to stick with it.

“It is early days, we are only five games in but there are lots of positives and if they all stick together, it is going to be a good season - but there is a long way to go.”
