An efficient Hyde United took advantage of a substandard Atherton Collieries performance, claiming all three-points from the Skuna Stadium with a 1-0 win in the Northern Premier League Premier Division on Saturday.

Brad Roscoe converted from a scrappy corner after 10 minutes, giving the Tigers a deserved lead following a good start.

The Tigers could have doubled their lead after half an hour as midfield dynamo Liam Tongue curled an impressive effort on to the woodwork.

The Black and Whites grew into the game towards the end of the first half, though Hyde would have considered themselves unfortunate not to have a wider advantage at this stage.

The second half was a scrappy affair.

The Colls took a foothold of possession early on and retained the ball throughout the half but failed to make it count, with the visitors happy to defend their lead.

Colls’ Luke Nicholls offered the brightest spark with his late cameo appearance, adding a notable injection of pace and energy into the match.

The result was secured when a late injury reduced the Colls to 10 men, putting the result beyond any lingering doubt.

The boisterous Hyde following enjoyed deserved celebrations upon the final whistle.

Colls host Matlock Town on Saturday next (3pm).
