Daisy Hill take a break from league action tomorrow when they travel to Liverpool to face Lower Breck in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase (3pm).

There are many rounds to negotiate before the eventual prize of a day at Wembley for the final, but in the immediate future, the winners of this weekend’s tie do have the intriguing prospect of a trip across the Irish Sea to face FC Isle of Man in the next round.

Lower Breck have only won two of the seven games they have played this season, but Daisy Hill manager Leighton Mills is under no illusions about the difficulties his side could face, against a team from a division above.

“It’s going to be tough, we know that,” said Mills.

“It’s away from home on an artificial pitch, and we haven’t reacted well to 4G in recent games.

“But we’ve had no midweek fixture which is great for us. I went to watch Lower Breck in midweek at Northwich Victoria, and was able to see where their strengths and their weaknesses are.

“We’ve built a game plan around that, and hopefully it will be enough to get us through to the next round.

“We are going there with a pretty much full-strength squad, although we have a couple of knocks and we’ll see how those are on Saturday.

“We had a good test pre-season against Wythenshawe Town, another strong team in the same league as Lower Breck, and we beat them and they are one of the favourites to win the league.

“So there’s no reason why we can’t go to Lower Breck and get a result, but we have to be really on our game from minute one.

“If we start games slowly like we have done in some recent games, the game will be over by half time, and that is something we have been working on in training this week.

“It probably helps us they had a midweek fixture, as they haven’t been able to prepare for us until that game was over.

“One of their representatives was at our game last Saturday, so they have watched us and know what we are about, and from watching that game I’d expect they will come out flying at us in the first half.

“But we’ll go there with our game plan in place, and see what comes out of it.”
