Former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio has named ex-Wanderers striker Kevin Davies as one of his toughest opponents.

The Brazilian left-back made more than 130 appearances during a six-year spell with the Merseyside club.

He also had spells with Valencia and Gremio, as well as representing his country at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Aurelio came up against Davies during Wanderers’ Premier League days and says it was “a really physical test”.

He named the prolific striker as one of his most challenging opponents alongside ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid star Arjen Robben.

Aurelio told the club’s website: “When I first came to Liverpool, I remember games with Bolton Wanderers were really difficult at the beginning.

“Kevin Davies was always on the right, so it was always a really physical test for me. That was really tough in that aspect.

“Playing against Chelsea and Real Madrid, Arjen Robben was also really difficult to play against. I would say both, to be honest.

“The experience with Davies was the more physical side of English football, while Robben was a really talented and quick player.”

Davies scored 85 goals during a memorable 10-year spell with the Whites, becoming a hugely popular figure among supporters.

He returned to the UniBol last season for Gethin Jones’ MND appeal, helping recruit a team of legends for the occasion.
