Wanderers boss Ian Evatt was delighted with the way his side dictated play during their 2-0 win against Lincoln.

Dion Charles opened the scoring from the penalty spot and substitute Jon Dadi Bodvarsson wrapped up the result six minutes from time.

The Whites have now won their last four matches in League One, but Evatt believes there is still more to come.

“They surprised us today coming here and going 5-4-1 and playing in that low block,” he said. “It is sometimes really challenging to break down but I thought we created quite a few chances considering. It was just our last bit of detail and execution that let us down.

“But I thought the way we controlled the game was really good. I thought our defensive responsibility from one to 11 was first class.

“They were looking to play in transition and on the counter attack, and I think we limited them to very little.

“Obviously, just the set-piece chance second half and Traff was called upon right at the end. It shows he was fully invested and concentrated for 90 minutes because that is the last minute when the game is pretty much over anyway.

“A good performance. As I said this week, they have been training their socks off. I have been so pleased with it and I have just said to them it is so challenging picking 11s and it is even more challenging picking a bench.

“There are going to be people unhappy. But that is the nature of football and they have got to get their heads down, work hard and try to get in the team because it is functioning really well at the moment.”

Charles also had a penalty appeal turned down during the second half, and Evatt felt it was “stonewall”.

He added: “I think we were in control for the entire game today really. We probed and we carried on getting lots of final third entries.

“We just didn’t at times have that bit of quality or execution to really break them down and create chances.

“Having said that, we should have had a stonewall penalty second half. The penalty definitely is one [in the] first half and we have missed some good chances as well.

“Against a team [playing] 5-4-1, we have actually created quite a lot. I was more pleased with the clean sheet to be honest because those are the types of games where you need to keep the score nil and keep probing until you get the goal.”
