Lincoln boss Mark Kennedy admits Wanderers penalty was the right call – but felt his side could have had a spot-kick of their own.

Dion Charles tucked home from 12 yards after Elias Kachunga went down in the box. Referee Neil Hair initially seemed to allow play to continue but eventually pointed to the spot.

Kennedy had no complaints with the decision but says Jack Diamond felt it was very similar to his tangle with Bolton skipper Ricardo Santos during the second half.

“I am not somebody for coming out and slagging people off. He explained to me what had happened,” said the Lincoln chief.

“The bottom line is it was a penalty. I won’t tell you what he said because that is not fair on the referee.

“He is a human being trying to work as hard as he could. However he got there, his decision was correct.”

He added: “I spoke to Jack after the game and he said he doesn’t see the difference between ours and theirs.”

Substitute Jon Dadi Bodvarsson wrapped up the result six minutes from time with a clinical finish past Carl Rushworth.

Despite the result, Kennedy was pleased with his side’s display and felt they “frustrated” the Whites at times.

“I thought out of possession we were excellent, particularly in the second half,” he explained.

“I thought we really frustrated them and made it really tough for them. We came here with a gameplan that we were going to give up possession and hit them on the counter.

“I thought particularly in the first 10, 15 minutes that was evident, and we definitely saw glimpses of that in the second half. I just said to the boys there are lots of positives from that.”

Wanderers have now won their last four league matches and remain in the top six, despite having played a game fewer than some of the sides around them.

Lincoln slip to 13th place, having picked up 13 points from their opening 10 fixtures since the start of the campaign.
