Dion Charles and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson fired Wanderers to a 2-0 victory against Lincoln City at the UniBol.

Charles opened the scoring from the penalty spot before substitute Bodvarsson wrapped up the result six minutes from time with a clinical finish.

The Whites remain in the top six, despite having played a game fewer than some of the sides around them.

Charles leading from the front

Charles delivered another promising display against the Imps, opening the scoring with a clinical penalty.

But perhaps even more pleasing is his work off the ball, refusing to give the Lincoln defenders a second on the ball.

Ian Evatt has spoken frequently about the importance of pressing from the front and Charles, along with Elias Kachunga, are playing a key role in that regard.

The Northern Ireland international is now on five goals this season in all competitions despite a spell on the sidelines.

Bodvarsson makes an impact

Bodvarsson has had a tough start to the season due to a series of injuries but made a big impact off the bench for the Whites.

His quality shone through, causing the tiring Lincoln backline plenty of problems during the final stages.

Spending the last couple of weeks at Wanderers seems to have done the Icelandic forward a world of good and he will be hoping to push on from here heading into a busy month.

Amadou Bakayoko was also an unused substitute, having covered plenty of miles while on international duty with Sierra Leone.

Building momentum

Evatt’s men have now won their last four league matches and are keeping the pressure on the sides leading the way.

The build-up to Christmas was a difficult period for the Whites last season due to a mixture of poor form and awful injury lucky.

But the squad is in a much different place this time around, and only three clubs have won more games than Wanderers at this stage.

The Bolton boss has made it clear that there are no easy games in League One, but his side will be full of confidence when they make the trips to Cheltenham and Forest Green over the coming week.

Midfield partnership becoming key

Wanderers have brought in some excellent midfield options over the past year or so, but MJ Williams and George Thomason are currently keeping them out of the side.

The pair have impressed in recent weeks, providing bags of energy in the middle of the pitch and offering valuable protection to the back three.

It seems inevitable that Evatt will rotate his midfielders and try out various partnerships over the coming month, but the pair have proved that they can be big players for Wanderers this season.
