Cheltenham forward Alfie May is an injury doubt for Tuesday night’s League One clash with Wanderers.

May was stretchered off during the final stages of the 2-0 win against Shrewsbury Town over the weekend after picking up an ankle problem.

The 29-year-old is set to have a scan on the injury today, according to Gloucestershire Live journalist Jon Palmer.

May has scored four goals in 13 appearances in all competitions since the start of the campaign, including an effort against Salop at the weekend.

He found the net 23 times in League One last term – a total only bettered by Will Keane and Ross Stewart.

Wanderers were initially due to make the trip to Whaddon Road last month but the fixture was postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Wade Elliott’s side have won three of their last four matches in all competitions and are up to 17th in the table after a difficult start.

Speaking after the Shrewsbury game, Elliott said: “I thought we were composed throughout. Games always ebb and flow and momentum can shift, but I felt we did the basics really well in 90 minutes.

“We looked calm, we didn’t look flustered. I think that has been a message from early on, learning from the early games of the season. I think it is another sign of progression.”

He added: “It has ended up being quite a new group. There was a turnover in players and quite a few faces in the starting line-up who weren’t here last season.

“So we have had to go back and do a little bit of work that we thought we might not do earlier in the season.

“The import thing is, ‘are we showing signs of growing and moving forward?’ I am certain we are.”

The Whites recorded a 2-1 victory when the sides met back in April, with Kieran Sadlier and Amadou Bakayoko getting on the scoresheet.
