Shrewsbury boss Steve Cotterill says is side’s 3-2 win against Wanderers was an “incredible” victory against “a really good team”.

Rob Street opened the scoring in the second minute but the Whites hit back through a brace from Dion Charles, with the second coming from the penalty spot after Dapo Afolayan had been brought down in the box.

But Christian Saydee got the hosts back on level terms 11 minutes from time and Chey Dunkley completed the comeback.

“An incredible win today against a really good team. I have got to make sure I underline that,” Cotterill told the club’s YouTube channel.

“I like Bolton, I like them as a football club. I liked them when Sam Allardyce as there and he used to upset all the odds, and I think Ian is doing a really good job with them now.

“I know their budget is probably three times ours, but it doesn’t matter. You still have to use that wisely, and I think he is doing a good job there.”

The Shrewsbury boss was delighted with the character his side showed late on to come from behind and secure all three points.

He added: "It is good to get a late goal against the kings of late goals. They are fifth in the table but if you were to take (away goals) from after the 85th minute, they would be 18th.

“So for us to do that to them and put it on them late on in the game, it was good.”

More than 1,600 Wanderers fans made the trip to Shropshire despite the awul weather conditions, and Cotterill was impressed with their support.

“The game is nothing without the supporters,” he said. “They sold out their end today, incredible following away from home.

“Our guys know then they have to be up for it in all four corners of our stadium because otherwise the away team will come with that sort of following and drown us out.”

Wanderers are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Manchester United Under-21s to the UniBol in the Papa Johns Trophy last 16 (KO 7:45pm).
