Wanderers’ busy schedule continues with a home fixture against Exeter City on Saturday afternoon (KO 3pm).

The Whites enter the game on the back of a 4-0 win against Manchester United Under-21s in the Papa Johns Trophy last 16 on Tuesday night, with Dapo Afolayan, Aaron Morley, Amadou Bakayoko and Conor Bradley all on target.

Ian Evatt’s men currently sit fifth in the League One table and will be aiming to build momentum heading into the busy Christmas period.

Team news

Kyle Dempsey is back in contention after recovering from an ankle injury, but the midfielder is unlikely to start against the Grecians.

Gethin Jones misses out after picking up an injury on Tuesday night and will be out for a couple of weeks.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is also sidelined after having an operation to repair his broken nose, but the forward should be back before the end of the month.

George Thomason has seen a specialist and doesn't need surgery at this stage. Evatt is hopeful the youngster will be back around March.

Opposition lowdown

Former Celtic and Scotland defender Gary Caldwell took charge at Exeter in October following the departure of Matt Taylor, who left his position to join Championship side Rotherham.

The Grecians are currently 13th in the table as they aim to build on last season’s promotion from League Two.

Caldwell’s side drew 1-1 against Sheffield Wednesday in their last outing and thought they had done enough to secure all three points before Callum Paterson equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced Exeter 13 times in their history, with a record of five wins, four draws and four defeats.

The Grecians recorded a 2-1 victory when the sides last met at the UniBol back in May 2021, with Pierce Sweeney scoring the winner at the death.

There have only been two meetings since the Whites’ last win in the fixture – a 4-1 victory at Burnden Park in March 1993.
