EFL pundit Carlton Palmer reckons Huddersfield striker Danny Ward would be a “great addition” for Wanderers.

Ward made his senior debut for the Whites back in 2009 and has been linked with a return to the UniBol in the January window.

The 32-year-old impressed last season as Huddersfield narrowly missed out on promotion, losing out against Nottingham Forest in the play-off final at Wembley.

He has scored three goals in 22 appearances this term and is entering the final months of his contract.

Palmer believes Ward - who has also had spells with Rotherham and Cardiff among others – could be a success story at Bolton.

Ian Evatt’s men have struggled in the final third at times this season, finding the net 26 times in 21 league games.

Evatt’s current options include Dion Charles - who reached double figures for the season at the weekend - Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Amadou Bakayoko. Dapo Afolayan and Elias Kachunga have also been used in the number nine role.

“Bolton are in a playoff position and are having a good season,” Palmer told Football League World.

“Danny’s entering the last six months of his contract. Huddersfield are in that relegation dogfight so whether they offer him a new contract, I don’t know.

“He’s been playing regularly for them. He scored 14 goals in the championship last season.

“So that is a player who could go into that Bolton side and do very well. He’s very hard-working and I think he’d be a great addition to the football club.”

Wanderers are back in League One action on Tuesday, December 27 when they host Derby in front of the TV cameras.

The Whites are currently fifth in the table heading into the busy Christmas period following Saturday’s 2-0 win against Exeter.

But Evatt’s men have a tricky run in, with matches against Barnsley, Plymouth and Portsmouth coming up before the end of January.
