Dempsey scored his third goal of the season, keeping his cool to slot home from close range after a brilliant team move.

Meanwhile, Aimson has stepped up at the heart of defence in recent weeks while skipper Ricardo Santos has been out of action.

Monday’s win saw Wanderers climb to fifth in the League One table – now above Barnsley on goal difference.

The Whites are back in action at the weekend when they welcome leaders Plymouth to the University of Bolton Stadium.

The Pilgrims are currently four points clear of second-place Sheffield Wednesday following a 3-1 win against MK Dons on New Year’s Day.
