Southampton striker Dan Nlundulu is excited by Wanderers’ ambition after joining on loan until the end of the season.

Nlundulu cut short a loan at Cheltenham Town over the weekend, having made 27 appearances for the Robins this term.

The forward says it was “the right time” to move on and is relishing a new challenge as the Whites aim to push for promotion.

He is relishing the opportunity to play for a club with the history and fanbase of Wanderers and hopes he can build on his League One experience.

“I have an ultimate respect for Cheltenham, the way they welcomed me was great. I had a great time – some good memories and some bad memories - but I felt it was my time to move on,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“For me and my team it was the right decision. We thought we had to make that next level, and it’s such a big club.

“I am so excited to be here with a club that has got so much ambition. I am very excited and I can’t wait to get started.”

A former England youth international, Nlundulu has made 13 appearances in the Premier League for Southampton.

“My Southampton career has been amazing,” he added. “The way they’ve treated me, I’ve been there since under-13s and I’ve come all the way through.

“The way they have believed in me – I had a lot of injuries back in the day and they kept me on.

“They knew there was a player in there and I was lucky to work with Ralph (Hasenhuttl). He saw something there and that’s why he gave me my appearances.

“But I felt like this was my time to go and learn, get some experience and hopefully do well here, achieve the goals and the targets we have here.”

Wanderers have struggled at times in the final third this season and Nlundulu hopes he can provide goals.

“That is what I am here for, I am here to score goals,” he said. “At the end of the day, I am a number nine and that is my job.

“I am looking forward to meeting the players and linking up with them. Hopefully, we can get a good understanding and help each other get some goals and get this club where it needs to be.

“As a player who came from Academy to League One football, I would advise every player to go on loan and get some experience.

“Being around that first-team environment is so beneficial, and to feel that you are wanted and to have responsibility under pressure. For me, especially coming to such a big club, it is fantastic.”

Nlundulu isn’t available for Tuesday night’s Papa Johns Trophy quarter-final against Portsmouth but could make his debut against Pompey in the league on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a big game coming up in the Papa Johns and against Portsmouth again on Saturday. They are also a big club,” he added.

“I am just looking forward to getting started, getting into training straight away and getting to know the lads. Hopefully, we can achieve something big.

“I have got great targets for me individually and as a club. I am sure the club wants to get promoted and I hope we do because that’s what we deserve.”
