Wanderers maintained their unbeaten run with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Portsmouth at the UniBol.

Dion Charles, Kieran Lee and Eoin Toal were all on target as the Whites recorded a 12th league win of the season.

James Trafford didn’t have much to do in the Bolton goal after another resilient defensive display from Ian Evatt’s men.

First look at Nlundulu

New signing Dan Nlundulu came off the bench earlier than expected following Bodvarsson’s injury and managed around an hour in total.

The Southampton loanee showed some nice touches and caused the Portsmouth defenders a few problems.

While it will take time to adjust to Wanderers’ system, the early signs suggest his physicality could be a useful weapon over the coming weeks and months.

Nlundulu will be hoping he can add to the five goals he scored while on loan at Cheltenham during the first half of the season.

Toal on target

Toal’s goal 19 minutes from time wrapped up a brilliant afternoon for the Whites – and what a strike it was!

The Northern Irish centre-back found the bottom corner with a precise finish, giving Josh Oluwayemi no chance in the Portsmouth goal.

He has made a seamless transition to League One football since his summer move from Derry and is starting to look like a shrewd piece of business.

Will Aimson and George Johnston also deserve credit, and Wanderers have now conceded just once in their last eight fixtures in all competitions.

Lee stands out

Lee continues to play an important role for Wanderers, proving how effective he can still be at this level.

The experienced midfielder took his goal well, reacting quickly after Oluwayemi had spilled Kyle Dempsey’s cross and making the finish look much easier than it actually was.

Playing in the Number 10 role enables him to bridge the gap between midfield and attack, which has been an issue at times this season.

Evatt will be hoping that Lee can stay fit during the second half of the campaign as the Whites aim to keep climbing the table.

Building momentum

Wanderers are now unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions despite a tricky run of fixtures on paper.

They also have a six-point cushion to seventh-place Wycombe ahead of next weekend’s trip to promotion rivals Derby.

Evatt’s sides tend to be strong after the New Year and that trend looks like it could well continue this season.

The boss refuses to give up the chase on the top two and while it would take some doing, you just never know with Bolton.
