Cheltenham have bolstered their squad with the signing of Glen Rea on loan from Luton ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wanderers.

The 28-year-old midfielder will spent the remainder of the season at Whaddon Road and becomes the Robins’ fourth signing of the January window.

However, Rea will not be involved against Ian Evatt’s men at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international is still in the final stages of his rehabilitation from a knee injury and is expected to remain at Kenilworth Road for a further couple of weeks. The transfer was only completed on deadline day in order to comply with EFL regulations.

But another January addition could be involved against the Whites this weekend.

Aidan Keena joined Cheltenham from League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers several days ago for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old striker was the top-scorer in the Irish top flight last season, finding the net 18 times in 21 appearances.

Director of football Micky Moore says Keena was the club’s “number one target” in the January window.

The striker told the club’s website: “I’m delighted to be here and hopefully I can hit the ground running to help us stay in the league.

“I came on a lot last year. I improved my game all over the pitch so I definitely think I can come here and make a difference.”

He added: “I’ve been all over the place, with different clubs at different levels across a few countries. A lot of experience, but I’d definitely want to settle, knuckle down and do well for the club.”

Cheltenham currently find themselves 18th in the League One table – four points above the drop zone at this stage of the campaign.

Wade Elliott’s side recorded a 1-0 win against Wanderers when the sides met at Whaddon Road back in October, with Ryan Broom getting the decisive goal three minutes from time.
