A boxer has proved he still has what it takes to become a world champion after winning his first fight back in the ring

Khaleel Majid stopped his opponent in the third round at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Trafford on Saturday, February 18.

The super lightweight boxer from Heaton fought against Jamie Quinn, earning himself a TKO.

He said: “It was good to get back even though I’ve been out for a year, it didn’t feel like I even left.

“In round three when I hit him, I felt it by his reaction, so I upped the pace and went hell for leather.

“I knew he couldn’t handle the pace.”

Majid's opponent, Quinn, had not been stopped before in his career, making it even sweeter for the 25-year-old.

He said: “People do not realise where I want to go in boxing and I’m here to win titles, otherwise it’s pointless doing it.

“The training is hard and it’s years of your life, so I need to be in it seriously.”

Majid also had kind words for Quinn, calling him a ‘respected’ boxer in the game for many years.

But the Heaton boxer admits he does not research his opponents and learn their style, putting it  down to the day instead.

He said: “A lot of people also came out to support me and I’m grateful for it because if you don’t sell tickets, you can’t fight.

“My dad sells the most tickets, he’s doing it all the time by telling his friends and business people.

"My dad has supported me since day one and even financially, because I didn’t have any work and he used to take me up and down the country.”

Majid was previously asked by big promoter, Eddie Hearn to be on a boxing show but the Heaton boxer said he had to refuse due to the time being in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

He said: “I just want to thank everyone and Crep Protect for their support.

“I had 24 hours down time and then got back in the gym."
